the Culture Champion
award at the Dumfries &
Galloway Life People of
the Year 2010 awards.
This is the first year of these awards
which have been set up to recognise
people and places around the region
that play a vital role in making our
area such a wonderful place both to
live in and to visit.
The award highlighted the vision,
purpose and hard work that has gone
into making the The CatStrand a
reality.
The CatStrand’s success is down to
a number of key elements, among
which are the hard work of the
Glenkens Community & Arts Trust
(GCAT) in getting the project up
and running, the continuing input
of a dedicated team of tireless staff
and volunteers, and the venue’s
adaptability; its ability to be
so many things at once, from
conference venue to theatre,
sports hall to cinema makes
it a hub of activity in a rural
area where other similar
resources are so limited.
The CatStrand has also
proved itself in the area of
environmental sustainability
by achieving Gold
