Mercy Addresses Gun Violence After Newtown Shootings
The shootings at an elementary school in Newtown, CT, have pushed concern about gun
violence to the forefront of the nation’s agenda.
Indeed, more than 530 Mercy advocates –
among the most ever for one legislative action -- contacted their legislators to urge enactment of
a federal law that at a minimum bans military-style weapons and high-capacity ammunition
magazines.
In addition to joining the chorus for serious gun control legislation, the Sisters of
Mercy are calling for more conversation about the culture of violence that pervades
communities, national security policies and the entertainment industry.
