Faith Groups Push for Summer Passage of Immigration Reform
The Sisters of Mercy are joining broad coalitions of faith-based and immigrant rights organizations in pushing
for passage of meaningful immigration reform legislation before Congress heads home for the August recess.
The effort is combining prayer, advocacy, education and powerful story-telling of the impact of the United
States’ broken immigration system on families.
The U.S. Catholic bishops hosted a Mass for immigrants at a church on Capitol Hill on May 29. Ryan Murphy,
who represents Mercy at the bishops’ Justice for Immigrants meetings, collected for the liturgy immigrants’
belongings found along the U.S. -Mexico border. He also helped organize follow-up visits to legislative offices.
Mercy advocates contacted their legislators to encourage them to attend the Mass. You may read more about
