Mercy Joins Call to Conscience on Climate Disruption
Sisters of Mercy have joined an effort led by the Friends Committee on National Legislation (the Quaker
advocacy organization) to appeal to Congress on climate change from a moral perspective. The short-term
goal is to encourage a bipartisan group of legislators to publicly declare that climate disruption is real, primarily
caused by human activities, and inflicting great harm on present and future generations and on Earth itself.
This is a particularly critical time to speak out on climate change, after the Obama Administration released the
Third National Climate Assessment. The report is the work of over three hundred experts from a wide variety of
disciplines and concludes that climate change is not a distant threat, but is happening right now. Not only are
